This increases the distance between the lower branches of the tree and the ground. Crown lifting can be used to allow more light through to the ground, allow easier access below the tree or perhaps improve a view or show off an attractive sturdy trunk.
The density of the crown is reduced, but at the same time the overall shape and size of the tree remains the same. This technique allows more light into the crown of the tree and also allows more light through to the ground. Please note that is only a pictorial representation of crown thinning. When this technique is carried out on a live tree, it would normally be less extensive.
This technique is called crown reduction and is used to balance and reshape trees if they get too large or grow unevenly. It also allows the removal of large, heavy branches that could split and fall.

Some of the tree care services we offer are as follows:

  • Dead wooding: involves the removal of deadwood either for aesthetic reasons or on the grounds of safety. This reduces the risk of wood falling and causing damage to persons or property
  • Crown Reduction: This procedure is usually undertaken on trees that have out grown their position and is used to balance and reshape trees.
  • Crown Thinning: to prevent the sail effect on the canopy of the tree by removing branches within the canopy of the tree, this may also allow more light and breeze penetration through the canopy.
  • Crown Lifting: removes the lower branches of the tree canopy to allow unrestricted access under the tree either for vehicular or pedestrian access.
  • Formative Pruning: pruning of young trees to prevent structural abnormalities developing in the future. To encourage better growth characteristics.
  • Fruit Tree Pruning: Our fully trained Arborist’s pay careful attention to pruning and training fruit trees to increase their fruit bearing productivity and longevity. Good pruning and training also prevents later injury from weak crotches (where a tree trunk splits into two or more branches) that break from the weight of fruit, snow, or ice on the branches.
  • Sectional Felling: the dismantling of trees in confined spaces or trees which have obstacles underneath which cannot be moved i.e. glass houses, garages, etc
  • Straight Felling: where space allows, the tree can be felled in one and then cut up and removed.
  • Tree Planting: There’s a lot more to planting trees than meets the eye. We can identify and recommend appropriate trees for your garden or large open spaces with the correct planting techniques and after-care such as mulching, irrigation and fertilisation provide your trees with a healthy start.
  • Identification of Pests and Diseases: All trees and plants eventually have some type of problem. Insects and diseases can threaten tree health. As soon as you notice any abnormality in your tree’s appearance, you should begin a careful examination of the problem. By identifying the specific symptoms of damage and understanding their causes, you may be able to diagnose the problem and select an appropriate treatment.
  • 24 Hour Call Out: If you have an unexpected tree fall during the night blocking your drive and require emergency assistance for a fixed fee we can come out and clear the way and make the tree safe. See terms and conditions.
